Warden Messages 2011

Possible Protests 19 March in Hamdalaye and ACI-2000 Area of Bamako

March 18, 2011

The U.S. Embassy is issuing this warden message to notify the U.S. citizen community that the Embassy has received information that the African Solidarity for Democracy and Independence (SADI) is organizing a demonstration to show opposition to any foreign military intervention in Libya beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The demonstration is planned to start near the mosque of Hamdalaye to the Kwame Nkruma Monument, and is expected to end at the Libyan Embassy in ACI-2000.

The Malian Police have been notified and it is understood that this activity may not be authorized.   Therefore, the police may move to disperse the protesters.  The Embassy has no reason to believe that this demonstration will be violent.  However, the Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid the area in the morning.
