Warden Messages 2011

Possible Demonstration in Bamako

March 4, 2011

The U.S. Embassy in Bamako is issuing this warden message to inform U.S. citizens that the Embassy has received information that there may be a demonstration organized by a group of youth to show their support for the Libyan president tomorrow 05 March 2011, beginning around 7:30 a.m.. Their possible route will be from the Peace Monument to the Monument of Kwame Nkruma (The Monument of the Ex Ghanaian President), then towards the Libyan Embassy.

The Malian Police have advised that this activity may not be authorized. Therefore, the Police may move to disperse the protesters.

The Embassy has no reason to believe that this demonstration will be violent.  However, it is recommended to avoid the above areas during the scheduled times.  Most demonstrations are generally contained and non-violent but can change very quickly.  If you happen to be in an area in which a demonstration is occurring try to leave the area quickly.  If this is not possible, try maintaining a low profile until such time as you are able to get out of the area.
