Dengue Fever Outbreatk
November 14, 2008
There is evidence of a recent localized Dengue Fever outbreak in the south of the Kayes Region near the Senegalese border. If you live in this area, or will be traveling there, it is recommended that you make use of Deet-based insect repellent and control mosquitoes in your living space.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness found throughout the world. The Aedes mosquito, which spreads Dengue, is a daytime feeder, so use of insect repellents during the day, as well as at night, is recommended. Further information on Dengue fever can be found on the Centers for Disease Control Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/dengue/.
To obtain Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel notices, you may dial the CDC at 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636) from within the U.S., and at 1-404-639-3534 from overseas, or visit their website at http://www.cdc.gov/travel
