Vice Verse All Stars “Jam” in Bamako
The Rhythm Road initiative of the US Department of State seeks to share American culture and exchange with cultures around the world through music. In February; Rhythm Road sponsored the trip of the Vice Verse All Stars, a hip hop group from New York. The four member group met with Malian rappers Pawlus , Mariam Kone, Sanoussi (former Fusion Art Exchange participants), exchanged styles and songs with students at Bamako’s Institute Nationale des Arts, and delighted students at the American International School with their music. The biggest events were two free concerts, at the Maison des Jeunes, and the Lycee de Kati, where the Vice Verse All Stars played to enthusiastic young audiences and invited them to sing and dance along, and also shared the stage with Tata Pound, Mali’s top rap group.
