Ambassador Milovanovic Presents Awards to top English Students
On May 7, 2009, Ambassador Milovanovic presented awards to the top English students at a local student center, Centre Monseigneur Luc Sangare. The four students had participated in a 60-hour course of studies of the English language funded by the Embassy Public Affairs Section. The Ambassador was joined by the director of the center, Sister Rosalie Somboro, and the representative of the Archbishop of Bamako, Abbé Timothee, in also presenting certificates of completion to 65 students who had successfully participated in the English courses. Tribute was also paid to the Malian teachers as well as two Americans, Peace Corps Volunteer Alec Ross and Sergeant Ben Bowman, who facilitated weekly conversation courses for the advanced students.
In her remarks, the Ambassador encouraged the Malian students to continue in their study of the “language of Shakespeare” as an important means to contributing to the future development of their country. Sister Rosalie and a student representative thanked the Embassy for this initiative and requested more courses in the future.
