Reporting a Death of an American Citizen
Any Death of a U.S. citizen should be reported immediately to the U.S. Embassy.
If you need to report the death of U.S. citizen abroad, please contact the Consular Section. We will arrange a private, quiet time for you to come in to discuss the situation.

If possible, please be ready to provide the consular representative with the following information:
- Name of the deceased
- Date and place of birth
- Passport number
- Date and place of death
- Cause of death
- Location of the remains
- Name and contact information of the next-of-kin
When you come to the Embassy, please bring the following documents:
- The original death certificate
- Proof that your relative was a U.S. citizen (such as: U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Certificate of Naturalization)
- His or her social security number (if possible)
