Peace Corps Mali celebrates 50 years
March 1, 2011
On March 1, 2011, Ambassador Gillian Milovanovic launched Peace Corps’ 50th Anniversary year with the participation of Foreign Minister Moctar Ouane. The Ambassador’s speech kicked off a full-day strategic planning session bringing together the international and domestic NGOs who engage with Peace Corps to fulfill its mandate of promoting world peace and friendship. It was on March 1, 1961 that President Kennedy signed Executive Order 10924 establishing the Peace Corps. Now 50 year later, this legacy lives on in the work of over 200,000 volunteers since its creation.
