Applying for Your First Adult Passport
When applying for your first passport as an adult, you must appear at the Embassy. You must bring the following:
- Completed, but not signed, Form DS-11 -- DO NOT SIGN until instructed to by a consular officer.
- Two full-face 2 inch by 2 inch color photos taken within the lat six months. The photos must meet these specifications.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, such as an original birth certificate from the U.S. or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA).
- Cash fee of $100 or equivalent in F CFA
In addition, you must provide proof that you are the person named in the birth certificate or CRBA. Proof may take the form of photos, school grades from the U.S., stamps in the non-U.S. passports of your parents, or other documentation.
U.S. law places the burden of proof on the applicant to prove their entitlement to a U.S. passport. If one isunable to provide sufficient evidenc that they are the personed named in the citizenship document, then they may not qualify for a U.S. passport.
