Overseas Voting
The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) covers all members of the Uniformed Services and their families, members of the merchant marine and their families, and US citizens who reside overseas, and assists them in exercising their right to vote.
Generally, all U.S. citizens 18 years or older who are or will be residing outside the United States during an election period are eligible to vote absentee in any election for federal office.
Some states also allow overseas voters to vote in elections for state and local offices, as well as for state and local referendums. For information regarding your specific state, visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program’s Voting Assistance Guide or the Overseas Vote Foundation (OVF) website.
Although citizens are not able to vote at U.S. Embassies, we are able to provide citizens with resources about absentee voting. Much of the information we provide can be found on the following sites:

- Federal Voting Assistance Program
- Department of State: Information on Overseas Voting
- Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act (PDF 45KB)
If you have further questions about absentee voting, please contact ConsularBamako@state.gov or visit the Consular Section during ACS hours.
