Students
Applicants wishing to travel to the U.S. to study must:
- Complete and print out form DS-156 (in English) (en français)
- Complete form DS-157 (for males between 16 and 45)
- Complete form DS-158
- Have an original, valid I-20 from the school in the U.S.
- Pay the SEVIS fee of $200
- Pay an application fee of $131 at any Banque Internationale pour le Mali (BIM)
- Have a passport with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States
- Have two photos that meet these specifications

On the day of the interview, please bring your completed forms, photos, bank receipt, and passport with you. If you have not filled out all the forms completely, or do not have all the necessary documents, you may be asked to return another day for your interivew.
Please also bring originals of:
- The SEVIS fee receipt
- Grades from high school and university
- Diplomas
- A letter from your sponsor indicating they will cover all of your costs while in the U.S.
- A recent bank statement from your sponsor
Do not have supporting documentation faxed, e-mailed, or sent to the Embassy; it will be thrown away. Bring all supporting documentaiton with you for the interview.
Arrive at the Consular Section of Embassy at least 30 minutes before your interview time. Please plan on staying up to three hours at the Embassy.
