The BAMAKO NEW EMBASSY COMPOUND (NEC) is one of the new Standard Embassy Design (SED) projects authorized for construction by the U.S. Congress and managed by the Department of States Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO).

The 8.64 Hectares (16 acre) site was purchased by the U.S. Government in 2002 and the SED awarded to Caddell Construction on September 30, 2003. The property is located just off the new Roi Bin Fahad Aziz Bridge just west of the Bamako central district is one of the new Standard Embassy Design (SED) projects authorized for construction by the U.S. Congress and managed by the Department of States Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO). The Bamako Embassy design started in December 2003.  NEC permanent construction started on October 17, 2004 and the Embassy was formally dedicated and occupied on November 17, 2006.

The project includes a new Chancery, GSO Annex, Utility building, Warehouse building, Marines Security Guard Quarters, three Compound Access Control buildings and miscellaneous support structures. The buildings include approximately 10,000 sq. meters of conditioned space with over 6500 sq. meters of Chancery space. The general grounds include 120 official and unofficial off of the street parking spaces and over 50,000 sq. meters of green space within the compound.

Construction is now underway for the new USAID building, with F.E.M. Joint Venture as the general contractor for the project.  This project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2007.
