Malian Citizens Participate in Democratic Process - May 2007

    On May 14, 2007, on behalf of the American people, U.S. Department of State Spokesman Tom Casey congratulated President Amadou Toumani Touré on his reelection as the President of the Republic of Mali in the following statement: "The United States congratulates President Amadou Toumani Toure on his reelection as President of the Republic of Mali.  This peaceful election is a testament to Mali’s commitment to an enduring democratic system and further establishes Mali’s credentials as a leader in the Community of Democracies.  The United States stands with the people of Mali on this occasion, and we applaud them for their commitment to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law.  The United States will continue to support their efforts to sustain a stable and prosperous democracy."
