Warden Message: Possible demonstrations in Bamako Saturday

This Warden Message alerts U.S. Citizens of possible demonstrations in Bamako Saturday, August 22 to protest changes to Mali’s family code. These demonstrations are scheduled to start around 09:00 and continue throughout the day. Protests are planned to take place at the Stade de 26 Mars and Bourses due Travail (l’avenue d’Indépendence) proceeding to the Peace Monument. Although protests such as these in Bamako are usually peaceful, the U.S. Embassy advises avoiding these areas. There may also be demonstrations in other cities in Mali

Americans living
or traveling in Mali are encouraged to register with the Embassy through
the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/
so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security
within Mali. Americans without Internet access may register directly
with the Embassy. By registering, American Citizens make it easier for
the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency. The U.S. Embassy in
