On October 5, 2009, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Peter Barlerin participated in a Signing Ceremony for the West Africa Seed Alliance Memorandum of Understanding. This public-private sector partnership is working to overcome obstacles that neither the public sector nor private industry has been able to resolve alone. It is both innovative and exciting because of its immense potential to help alleviate the persistent problem of food insecurity in West Africa. Public-private partnerships bring to the table new ideas and expertise from both sectors and their contributions will go a long way to making quality seeds reliably available to small scale farmers.
