This July, the Public Affairs section sponsored ACSI, the American Center Summer Institute, for teachers of English at medersas.  This is the second year for the program which provides two weeks of professional support and training in new methodologies, as well as pedagogical materials to selected medersa teachers in Malian regions. 

The workshops are held in Bamako and Mopti.  The sessions were taught by Spencer Salas, an American English specialist sent through the Regional English Language office in Dakar.  The training was enthusiastically received by participants, who relished the opportunity to network with each other while receiving capacity building instruction.  “This program definitely makes a difference!” said one of the participants as the workshop ended.
